Paddington returns to Peru to visit his beloved Aunt Lucy, who now lives in a retired bear house. With the Brown family in tow, a thrilling adventure ensues when a mystery takes them on an unexpected journey. Paul King, the director of the previous two films, has decided not to direct this installment. However, he came up with the idea for this third film and joined as an executive producer. If you, like me, agree that the first two Paddington films are among the greatest films ever made, this will be both a fun must-see and a disappointment. Because it’s about Paddington adjusting to life with a family in London or #39; How a normal family adapts to living with a bear loses its original charm and certainly its humor. This is another jungle adventure…but with a bear. It has a different feel to it – more sensitive and not significantly funny. As a jaded old Marx Brothers fan like me, I can say that the first two were funny, and this is definitely a family movie aimed at kids. We could say that we need more of the Brown family and their neighbors. We could say that we need Sally Hawkins, but what’s the point? We had it all in the first two and they were so… dare I say, perfect, there’s no point in trying to copy them. So yes, this is different, it’s terribly sentimental at times and nothing funny at all, but it’s still Paddington. More of a family fun than a funny, quirky, cutesy romp.
